Community Engagement in the Permian Region

SM Energy’s commitment goes beyond just being a good neighbor. We work with our stakeholders, both in the cities where we work and the locations where we operate, to create long-lasting partnerships – making our communities a better place in which to live and work.

Education

We support kindergarten through 12th grade education programs that focus on science, technology, engineering and math while encouraging students to pursue higher education including:

  • Permian Basin Petroleum Museum – a museum in Midland, Texas, USA, with exhibits relating to the oil and gas industry of the Permian Basin of west Texas and southeast New Mexico
  • Midland Independent School District – supports various educational programs to help students excel academically and have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities

Civic and Community Service

We are responsive to the needs of our communities and invest in civic and community organizations that meet critical social needs and enhance social and economic conditions including:

  • West Texas Food Bank – a nonprofit, non-governmental hunger relief organization that distributes food to children, families and seniors
  • Midland County 4H – a youth development program that prepares young people to make a positive impact in their communities
  • Midland County Livestock Association – an organization that sponsors an annual livestock show and competition for children age nine to nineteen who are interested in the advancement of livestock and agricultural growing methods

Health and Human Services

We support organizations and programs that focus on community health and wellness and place special emphasis on family wellness initiatives and occupational health programs including:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters – helps children succeed and thrive in life
  • March of Dimes – works to improve the health of mothers and babies
  • Boys and Girls Club – provides after-school programs for young people

“We are grateful to SM Energy for its donation of the topographic sand box and we are excited to display it proudly at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum! The incredible technology used to create this realistic, hands-on exhibit is an excellent introduction to the innovation of the industry and the technological capabilities the Museum has recently incorporated in its new exhibits. SM Energy has been a great partner in helping the Museum advocate for the petroleum industry and showcase the high-tech aspects of the business.”
